Durant Buys Stake in Paris Saint-Germain
American basketball and NBA star Kevin Durant has acquired a minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain, the French league and Champions League champions, the capital club announced on Friday.
Saint Germain announced in a statement that Qatar Sports Investments, the club's owner, "signed an investment and strategic partnership agreement with Kevin Durant, one of the most decorated American basketball players of all time and a leading investor in the sports and entertainment sectors."
The statement added that Durant will acquire the stake "through his media and investment arm, Boardroom." It explained that Qatar Sports Investments will collaborate with Boardroom "on a wide range of commercial, investment, and content initiatives," including products, media content, strategy in the US and internationally, and "potential expansion into basketball and multi-sports."
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Chairman of Qatar Sports Investments, said, "With Kevin, we look forward to developing ambitious initiatives that will enhance the continued global growth of Paris Saint-Germain and Qatar Sports Investments." Durant, 36, currently plays for the Phoenix Suns and has won two NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors and four Olympic gold medals with his country, the last of which was in Paris in the summer of 2024. According to a statement from the capital club, he said, "Paris and Saint-Germain are a team and a city dear to my heart. This club has big plans, and I am eager to participate in the next phase of growth."
