The future of the Canadian Grand Prix is in jeopardy despite a contract extending until 2031.

Canadian press reports have revealed that the future of the Canadian Grand Prix in Formula 1 is at risk of being cancelled after 2029, despite the current contract officially extending until 2031. Le Journal de Montreal reported that the contract contains a clause allowing Formula 1 to terminate the agreement in 2029, the original date before it was extended following the race's cancellation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the reports, Liberty Media, the Formula 1 rights holder, is considering removing the Montreal race from the calendar for several reasons, most notably the significant organizational failure of the 2024 edition and the relatively low annual fees of no more than $21 million, one of the lowest in the 24-round calendar.

Local government sources confirmed that negotiations with Formula 1 are underway amicably for a long-term extension, but Liberty Media will not enter into serious negotiations before evaluating this year's race. A source within the organizers indicated that "significant efforts are being made to improve transportation, access, and track facilities" to avoid a repeat of last year's failures.

The fate of the Canadian Grand Prix remains in doubt, pending the outcome of the 2025 Montreal Grand Prix next month.
