Galaxy Signs Hero of Historic Comeback

The Los Angeles Galaxy have signed Spanish midfielder Sergi Roberto to a contract until 2028 with an option for an additional year. The deal is a free transfer following the expiration of Roberto's contract with Italian club Como.

"Sergi possesses a unique combination of leadership, technical skill, tactical intelligence, and championship experience that few players have," said Galaxy General Manager Will Koontz in a statement on Saturday.

"He has been a key member of some of the greatest teams of his generation and understands what it takes to win and what it means to be part of a winning team. Sergi's personality, versatility, and leadership qualities will be invaluable, and we are excited to welcome him and his family to the LA Galaxy."

The 34-year-old Roberto joins the team after two seasons with Como, where he scored one goal and provided one assist in 37 appearances. He will share a dressing room with Riqui Puig, his former Barcelona teammate between 2018 and 2022.

Before Cuomo, Roberto spent his entire professional career at Barcelona, starting from the La Masia academy. He made his first-team debut in November 2010, before establishing himself as a key player in midfield and at right-back.

He has scored 19 goals in 373 appearances across all competitions and wore the captain's armband in the 2023-24 season. Sergi boasts an impressive collection of 25 titles across all competitions, most notably seven La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies.

On March 8, 2017, Roberto cemented his place in Barcelona's history when he became the hero of the historic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain, scoring the decisive winning goal in stoppage time to secure a resounding 6-1 victory after his team had lost the first leg 4-0 in the round of 16.
