Napoli Climbs to Second Place in Serie A

Napoli temporarily moved into second place in the Serie A standings thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cagliari on Friday evening in Matchday 30.

Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay scored the only goal of the game in the second minute, contributing to the defending champions' fourth consecutive win of the season, and their 19th overall, along with five draws and six losses.

McTominay capitalized on a defensive error inside the Cagliari penalty area following a corner kick, slotting the ball into the net. The goal was confirmed by VAR.

The first half saw noticeable tension from Napoli coach Antonio Conte, who expressed his frustration on several occasions due to misplaced passes by his defenders. In the second half, the team continued their efforts to extend their lead and came close in the 56th minute after a brilliant exchange of passes between McTominay, Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne, and Italian winger Matteo Politano, but the latter failed to convert.

Cagliari tried to revitalize their attack through substitutions, but the visitors' defense held firm until the final whistle, securing three valuable points that strengthened their position in the title race.

The victors now have 62 points, two points ahead of AC Milan, who dropped to third place, and six points behind leaders Inter Milan.

Milan host Torino on Saturday, while Inter Milan travel to Fiorentina on Sunday.
