After 30 Decades, Cameroon Avenges South Africa's Loss
The Cameroonian national football team waited 30 years to avenge their defeat against South Africa, securing a 2-1 victory on Sunday at the Stade de la Poste in Rabat and advancing to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations, currently being hosted by Morocco.
This was the second encounter between the two teams in the prestigious continental tournament, with South Africa winning the first match 3-0 in the opening game of the 1996 edition. Junior Chamadou opened the scoring for the Indomitable Lions in the 34th minute, followed by Christian Koufani in the 47th. Carlos Byba pulled one back for Bafana Bafana in the 87th minute. Cameroon will now face hosts Morocco in the quarterfinals, after the latter's 1-0 win over Tanzania. The match is scheduled for January 9th at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
