NBA: Sixers announce George surgery success

The Philadelphia 76ers, a member of the NBA, announced that star basketball player Paul George underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after suffering an injury during a training session.
The club announced on Tuesday that the 35-year-old player underwent successful surgery in New York and will begin a rehabilitation program with regular monitoring of his progress and re-evaluation before the start of preseason training camp in late September.
George, a nine-time All-Star, signed with the Philadelphia 76ers last July after stints with the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Clippers. Philadelphia, which hadn't advanced beyond the second round of the playoffs since losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2001 Finals, was expected to compete for the title. George joined center Joel Embiid and center Tyrese Maxey on a four-year, $212 million deal. However, the team went 24-58, its worst record since the 2015-16 season, and missed the playoffs.
George suffered multiple injuries, including a bruised kneecap and adductor problems, and was forced to sit out the season on March 17 due to knee injuries. He averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 41 games, or half a season.
Embiid played in only 19 games due to injuries, and the three stars, George, Maxey, and Embiid, appeared in only 15 games together. In his 15 seasons in the league, George averaged 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.
