Egypt loses to Morocco, fails to qualify for U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final
The Egyptian U-20 national team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday.
The Egyptian national team met its Moroccan counterpart at the Air Defense Stadium in New Cairo in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, held in Egypt.
Morocco's goal came in the 78th minute through Younes El-Abdellaoui, assisted by Ismail Awad.
Morocco qualified for the final, where it will face South Africa, who defeated Nigeria by the same score.
Egypt played four matches in the group stage, achieving two wins over South Africa and Tanzania, while suffering a loss to Sierra Leone and drawing with Zambia. This earned them seven points and qualified for the knockout rounds. In the quarterfinals, the young Pharaohs overcame Ghana to secure a place in the last four, while Morocco qualified after defeating Sierra Leone.
By advancing to the semifinals, the Egyptian national team also secured a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Chile in the coming period, marking yet another achievement for this promising generation of players.
