Hamilton Wins First Free Practice
Britain's Lewis Hamilton, a Ferrari driver, topped the first free practice session for the British Grand Prix, part of the Formula 1 World Championship, on Friday.
Hamilton clocked a time of 1 minute 26.892 seconds, 0.023 seconds ahead of McLaren's Norris.
Australian Oscar Piastri, the other McLaren driver and the overall leader in the drivers' championship, finished third, while Hamilton's Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc finished fourth.
Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, has not finished on the podium since switching from Mercedes to Ferrari this season. His best results this year were fourth place in Emilia Romagna and Austria. On the other hand, Norris bounced back from a disastrous weekend in Canada, where he collided with teammate Piastri, and won last week's Austrian Grand Prix, narrowing the gap to Piastri in the drivers' standings to 15 points.
