First French Experience: Monaco Brings Pogba Back to the Stadium
French club Monaco signed midfielder Paul Pogba on Saturday, who is returning from a doping ban, to bolster its first-team squad.
The club explained in a statement on its official website: "Monaco is pleased to announce the arrival of Paul Pogba. The French world champion has signed a two-year contract with the principality club until June 30, 2027."
Pogba arrived in the principality on Thursday evening and passed his medical between Friday and Saturday before signing the contract that ties him to Monaco, which will participate in next season's Champions League.
Pogba was sidelined for three years after serving an 18-month doping ban and injuries. The midfielder, who has 91 international caps, has never played in his country's top flight. He began his career with Le Havre before joining Manchester United at the age of 16, and later played for Juventus between 2011 and 2014. His last match for Juventus was on September 3, 2013. A few days later, he was suspended for four years after testing positive for a banned substance following a match against Udinese on August 20, 2013. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the sentence to 18 months, finding that the doping was not intentional, but rather resulted from the consumption of a nutritional supplement prescribed by a doctor in Florida. Pogba, who was suspended for two seasons in March 2025, is eligible to play again and will begin his search for a new club after his contract with Juventus expires in November 2024. During his two spells with both Juventus and United, Pogba won four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Super Cups. He also reached the 2015 Champions League final, losing 3-1 to Barcelona. During his time in England, he won only the 2017 Europa League title and reached the 2021 final, in addition to winning the 2017 League Cup.
