Argentine star Lionel Messi suffered his worst defeat yet in his American career, as his team, Inter Miami, lost 4-1 to host Minnesota United on Saturday in the 12th round of the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Despite Messi's goal early in the second half, Inter Miami once again suffered from poor defensive performance and suffered their fourth defeat in their last five matches in all competitions, including two against the MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals.
With Uruguayan Luis Suarez out injured, his compatriot coach Javier Mascherano decided to play without a clear striker, assigning Messi the role of forward and relying on a five-man midfield.
