Barcelona wins the title
Barcelona's first football team clinched the Spanish La Liga title for the 28th time in its history with two rounds remaining, defeating its Catalan neighbors, Espanyol, 2-0 on Thursday in the 36th round of the competition.
Hansi Flick's team entered the match with a four-point lead over its rival and pursuer, last season's champions, Real Madrid, following the latter's late 2-1 victory over Real Mallorca.
With its sixth consecutive victory, Barcelona raised its tally to 85 points, placing it seven points ahead of Real Madrid with two rounds remaining, clinching the league title, along with the Super Cup and Copa del Rey titles, which it won at the expense of its rivals.
Both teams failed to score throughout the first half, ending in a goalless draw, with both goalkeepers making several brilliant saves. In the second half, Lamine Yamal took the lead with a powerful left-footed shot in the 53rd minute. In stoppage time, Fermin Lopez doubled Barcelona's lead in the 90+5th minute.
